Associação EVITA – Cancro Hereditário

Libon, Portugal

Brief biography of partner

EVITA is a Portuguese patient and advocacy organisation that was established in 2011. EVITA’s mission is to save lives and improve the quality of life of individuals and families affected by hereditary cancer, focusing on raising awareness of hereditary cancer risk and providing information to help people understand and deal with their personal risk for familial cancer. While supporting individuals in their informed decisions, EVITA is also a very active voice among medical and scientific communities, similar associations and the public. EVITA participates in several EU Horizon Europe projects funded under the Cancer Mission initiative, leading tasks dedicated to innovation acceptance, patient engagement, education and training.

EVITA has launched the EVITA Platform (evitaplatform.org), a digital hub that centralises information, resources, and patient support on hereditary cancer. The EVITA Platform provides a risk assessment questionnaire, connects individuals with healthcare professionals and researchers and helps to improve awareness, prevention, and care pathways. The platform allows users to share information with authorised healthcare professionals and can be used to gather patient-reported experience and outcomes (PREMs and PROMs).

Role in the project

EVITA helps to ensure that the outcomes of the project are truly relevant to women and their families, while also promoting health literacy, access to information, and equity in access to the affordable and easy-to-use technologies being tested. EVITA will contribute to raising public awareness about warning signs and the importance of prevention and early diagnosis, helping to break the silence surrounding ovarian cancer.

EVITA leads one task in WP2, which is dedicated to the participatory co-design and gathering of end user requirements for the digital assets of the project. This includes also collecting feedback regarding the risk assessment and counselling, citizen/patient awareness and health education implemented in the project.

EVITA also participates actively in WP8, specifically with a task that focuses on the design and implementation of an intensive campaign to raise citizen awareness of ovarian cancer, its heritable nature, the value of risk assessment and early detection, as well as the overall technological advances achieved throughout the project.
